2011 The Year Of The Lipstick?

Season after season all sources of inspiration are continually exhausted and regurgitated. Whilst 2010 saw a mixture of all types of trends in the fashion and beauty stakes. The big beauty trend saw nails being transformed into all sorts of colours, patterns and shapes. Nail wraps hit the mainstream and bottles of Chanel nail varnish hit insane prices when re-sold on eBay. But what for 2011? Perhaps it will be the year of the lipstick.

Lipstick has long been a feature yet has never seemed quite so popular or filtered down to the high street so much as it has now. What with Topshop launching there own make-up range, and Mac's continual celebrity endorsements, lipstick is finally on the radar and I think will prove a strong trend for 2011. A relatively inexpensive way to make a statement, reinvention or a simple update of your look, everyone has a white t-shirt to channel Raf Simons interpretation at Jil Sander. Its all about the right shade and whether you chose a classic red, contemporary neon,  Morticia Adams plums or any colour in-between, I'm sure it will pack a much needed punch for twenty eleven trends.

The Same But Different

Emmanuelle Alt - Girl after my own heart!  Interviewed here by the lovely Hilary Alexander not only is she coming to London in February, but she loves Topshop - wearing Topshop jeans, the same outfit from Tommy Tons image below.

French Voguettes...

Love Chanel by Tommy Ton The Great as I like to call him. I've voted for him in the Bloglovin' blog awards. Emmanuelle Alt and Geraldine Saglio featured here during the couture show season. Can't get enough of Tommy Ton's shots on style.com, gq.com and his very own blog.

Already Obsessed

The Coveted, don't ask me why, don't ask me how, but I must have subscribed to something a while back and today from my inbox I was forwarded to this wonderful site.

"It's more interesting to have just a picture of a small detail - then you can dream all the rest around it. Because when you see the whole thing, what is there to imagine?" -Dries Van Noten
And The Coveted subscribes to that motto. I'm already obsessed, what a wonderful insight into the homes - inparticular the wardrobes of the fashion elite. I have serious wardrobe envy! Beautiful style - beautifully photographed be Jake Rosenberg. Its like The Selby meets Jak & Jil...and I thought I thought I loved them enough!

Simply Beautiful

I had to share this again, its over on my other blog. I find this so moving, atmospheric and simply beautiful. It reminded me of an Alexander McQueen show and those armadillo shoes - like they're from a  Jurassic time, so this felt fitting.

Ambition to Create Novel Expressions

All Acne fans must head over to Net-a-porter.com this week. The latest instalment of their weekly magazine features an interview with the creative director behind the brand Jonny Johansson. There's also a great post about his favourite places, so anyone interested in visiting should take note from the fashion king of cool.

And speaking of cool Isabel Marant fashion queen of cool's husband, Jerome Dreyfuss, is in the fashion business too and makes his Net-a-porter début available now. Surely being married to the women who has turned Parisian chic into a worldwide brand earns fashion kudos there and then ;-)

Just thought I would share this from Acne. I LOVE magazines, not just the content, covers and freebies but the smell, the quality, colours...and this video of Acne Paper in print quite literally pushes all my buttons, haha.

Fashion Prayer

Our Prada,
Who art in Harrods hollowed be thy fame,
thy Lyle and Scott, thy Cartier watch,
on Ralph as it is in Lauren,
give us this day our Mastercard and forgive us our overdraft.
As we forgive those who decline our visa,
lead us not into Topshop and deliver us from Primark,
For mine is the Gucci,
the Jimmy Choo's and the Pucci forever
AMEN !

Love - Androgyny Issue

Untitled from LOVE on Vimeo.

Always highly anticipated and avante garde magazine - Love Magazine is back on our shelves soon. With Kate Moss and Lea T ( the transexual model of Givenchy fame) on the cover for - The Androgyny Issue! One of my favourite images of an androgynous model has to be Aggy.

Aggy is somewhat of a regular in Love/POP magazine's she is shot here by Mert & Marcus (another of Katie Grands favourites) for W Magazine a real favourite of mine - possibly because its black and white?

White S/S 11

White is always a trail blazer in the summer, bannished are LBD's for LWD's. White linens, lace, white silks, cottons, dresses, jeans, hot pants and bikinis. You'll never see so much white than ever in summer. My favourite white inspiration.

Burberry Resort

Preen

Ashley Olsen in Calvin Klein

Chloe

Calvin Klein

One of spring/summers biggest trends will be White & Minimalism or a combination of the two. Best work and high street interpretation comes from Topshop, I can't wait for this to hit the shops. I'll be taking inspiration from London Fashion Week designer Simone Rocha. A nice mixture of cottons, sheers and relaxed tailoring.

Team it with the top beauty trend of the moment a pop of colour on the lips, maybe pink or orange. Updates an outfit! I'm definitely giving this a go, any lippy suggestions?

Jil Sander

Marni
Freya rocks them both!

Giovanna's A Gem

I simply had to post these amazing images. I've long been a fan of Giovanna Battaglia's her very ladylike, quirky, mis-matched yet perfectly matched fashion sense. It's often written about and photographed by many a blogger and magazine. She's a real gem, and the French beauty is that in every way especially here.
Giovanna is modeling here for Eddie Borgo - an American jewellery line. There seems to be references to Cleopatra and the land of the Pyramid but with Giovanna's natural beauty beaming through much like the Queen Pharaoh crossed with Frida Kahlo. I think she looks sensational.

The edgy jewels are quite rock'n'roll in design but  here they couldn't look more elegant and luxurious. Credit to all behind the concept. Eddie Borgo jewels can be brought at net-a-porter.com

Wish I could have seen this at Christmas; I might have got into the Christmas Christopher Kane spirit more.

Mulberry Pie

Mulberry's 'Alexa' bag is fast becoming a cult classic, selling out almost as soon as its back in stock. Mulberry are a long running British brand with long term accolades, designers and the team should congratulate themselves with a piece of mulberry pie - or Mulberry cake perhaps? Check out Alexa with her 'Alexa' bag cake, yes its a cake!

Whilst it looks far too good to eat, I hate to say it - but in the words of Tai from Clueless "break me off a piece of that!"

Forever Black

I know bright colours are going to be huge this summer, and I promise to give it a go. Maybe a bit of colour-blocking here and there, but my heart will be forever in love with black. I was going to say my heart will be forever black, but that could easily be misconstrued. I love black - black leather, black knit, black loose, black tailored, black for texture, black for matte, basically black, black, black, black, black, black, BLACK!

Perfectly Wonderful Amounts Of Neglect

I love fashion, I love art, I love travel, I love architecture, and I love nothing more than all this combined - whether its shot in a derilict building or weathered street. Rustic, chic, history and texture combined with beautiful contrasting glamour, luxury and fashion. Sarah Jessica Parker summed it up beautifully here for me in the Vogue video for her cover shoot.

"perfectly wonderful amounts of neglect"

I wish I had coined it myself. I've long been a fan of the rustic architecture and shabby chic decor synonymous with the continent. The beautiful ruins of the architecture in Havana - a nod to the history. When combined with fashion...its a dream.

All Vogue, British and American -a well travelled team. I need to go to Havana, I've done endless research and based projects around it but never visited, perhaps I'll put that on my 2011 to do list.

New Year - New Boots

How I love the beginning of the month for all my magazines, not the first time I've told you I'm sure, but to me its like Christmas all over again. I love to get my fill on fashion, design and culture. What with the snow we've had lately the delivery has been somewhat staggered - much to my irritation, but Vogue is my latest delve. I'll be reading this, this evening curled up in bed with the flu :-(

But before I go I must share with you these great little booties I brought for a mere £8 at Primarni (Primark, or as I like to call it Primarni). Aren't they great? I think they'll be the perfect trans-seasonal boots.

I hope to work them, with stuff kinda like this....

 Like Elin, Kate and Gala.

A Sign Of The Times

Fashions and trends change from season to season; styles come in and out, media changes and so do the times, and nothing seems more fitting as a sign of the times than the blog-high street fashion collaboration. I suppose it wasn't long really,  the profiles of the fashion blogs and the people behind them are fast becoming the new celebrities, sitting on the front rows, interviewed and featured in the best magazines and in some cases creating them. Earning themselves fashion credentials without the whiff of a degree, internship or fashion related job. They're highly influential and look set to become the future of fashion media. And now creating fashion - collaborating and designing for high street heavy weights.

Elin Kling of Style by Kling has revealed she has been in talks with H&M and is set to unveil a collection with them to be released in Sweden very soon. I love her blog, she has fantastic style  and is something myself and other would buy into. H&M's designer collaborations have been a roaring success so I can only presume this a sign of things to come and the evolution of the fashion blogger and what can materialise from your own opinions and style.

She was not the first blogger- retail collaboration, Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes fame collaborated with Urban Outfitters on a shoe collection, at the time a mere 17 years old. The girl has the most insane and extensive shoe collection, shared with her mother, and definitely knows her shoes. A real Carrie Bradshaw in the making.

Whilst this may seem like a first it most certainly will not be the last. Bloggers are the new celebrities...the future.

Alt-ernate Editor

Guess the shoes....

No surprises really with who's been appointed new editor at French Vogue - Emmanuelle Alt. Always seen at Carine's side during fashion weeks and has worked her entire career at Vogue along side her, Alt was the obvious choice to carry on Vogue's success. Alt always produces sexy, chic editorials with a grungy, modern edge - a real nod to her own style which she is hugely popular for in the blogging world. So I imagine she'll be in for great success as the new editor of French Vogue. So Bonne Chance Emanuuelle!
